Idoamebo reports that a coalition of security forces, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes, successfully rescued 21 kidnapped individuals on the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Kogi State.
On Thursday, December 28, 2023, a group of abducted individuals, including travelers, students, and staff from Comprehensive High School, Ajaokuta, were confirmed to have been taken to an undisclosed location in the dense forest near Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State. Onogwu Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Yahaya Bello, verified this information in a statement released on Saturday, December 30.
Upon receiving the distressing report, Governor Yahaya Bello promptly issued directives to security agencies and local vigilantes for immediate actions to secure the captives’ freedom. He emphasized the need to apprehend the perpetrators of this reprehensible act.
“The directive underscores Governor Bello’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens/residents under his charge,” the statement read.
The Chief Press Secretary noted that the combined efforts of the security forces yielded positive results within 48 hours, leading to the liberation of the 21 individuals held captive.
“Furthermore, the operation resulted in the apprehension of some kidnappers, with efforts ongoing to trace those still at large,” he added.
Governor Bello expressed relief and satisfaction with the operation’s outcome, commending the security operatives for their prompt and efficient response. He reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and security in the state, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to making it one of the safest in the country. The governor also reiterated appreciation for the state’s security agencies, highlighting ongoing collaborative efforts in the fight against criminal elements.
