Awka, Anambra State — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo as the winner of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, securing a commanding victory that saw him triumph in all 21 local government areas.
Prof. Edoba Omoregie, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, announced the results on Sunday morning at the commission’s state collation center in Awka, the state capital.
Governor Soludo, running on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), garnered an impressive 422,664 votes, demonstrating strong support across the state. His closest challenger, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 99,445 votes, coming in a distant second.
“That Soludo Charles Chukwuma of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having satisfied all the requirements of law and scored the highest number of votes in this election, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” Prof. Omoregie, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, officially declared.
Election Statistics and Other Candidates
The election saw modest voter turnout despite the large number of registered voters. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters in Anambra State, only 598,229 were accredited to vote during Saturday’s poll. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, with 584,054 deemed valid and 11,244 votes voided.
Other candidates in the race included:
Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), who secured 37,753 votes, claiming third position
George Moghalu of the Labour Party, who polled 10,576 votes, finishing fourth
John Chuma-Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 8,208 votes, coming in fifth place
Comprehensive Soludo State Dominance
Governor Soludo’s victory was particularly notable for its comprehensive nature, as he won in every single local government area across Anambra State. This sweep demonstrates broad-based support for his administration and the confidence voters have placed in his leadership.
The results mark a significant endorsement of Soludo’s first term in office and set the stage for his continued governance of the southeastern state. The election was conducted peacefully, with INEC officials working through Saturday into Sunday morning to collate and announce the final results.
